Directions to Sandpit Hash run #2

You can find directions to Sandpit Hash House Harriers run # 2 on Friday January 13 here.

As before, the run will start at 4pm sharp so aim to be there a little earlier and apart from the obligatory beer stop on the way and a few beverages in the circle, it’s BYO food and drink. The campsite is accessible to two wheel drive vehicles.

Hashmeister will be Prancer, Hare will be Fill Me Up and the RA will be Sleazy (as well as sleazy).

If you weren’t at the first run, this will give you an idea of what to expect. The route on January 13 is likely to be a little less adventurous but sandier.

If you can’t read the pdf, these are the directions:

From Abu Dhabi: Go along the Al Ain highway until just after the roadside marker saying Al Ain is 48km away. Turn off at the exit marked Truck Road Remah and go right (south).
From Al Ain: Go along the road to Abu Dhabi until just after the roadside marker saying Abu Dhabi is 112km away. Turn at the exit marked Truck Road Remah and go left (south).

Head south on a dual carriageway over a small hill and down to the truck road, do a U-turn and head back almost to the top of the hill again.

At a yellow sign marked “A Ferjar Maint. & General Cont Est”, turn right onto an unsealed road into the farms. It should be marked with a drinking-camel Sandpit Hash sign. Based on Google Earth, the turnoff is at 24deg 09’ 46.02”N 55deg 19’ 50.14”E.

After 2.4km on the dead straight and corrugated road, you’ll come to a junction that should also be marked with a sandpit hash sign. The other landmark is on the far right (or, as I call it, Ron Paul) corner, where a post is marked “KAZ25”. Turn left here and after 800m(ish) you’ll drop down a small embankment and come to another junction with the most-used road veering right.

The campsite is at the far side of the fields directly ahead. You can go left or right. Left is a little sandier so keep your speed up but right is a little rougher right near the campsite. The campsite should be at 24deg 10’ 13.17”N 55deg 22’ 06.98”E

I didn’t check cellphone coverage but it’s likely there’ll be reception so if you get lost, call shorth@ndjob on 050 561 7087.
on on!
