About the Sandpit Hash House Harriers

Another hash? Doesn’t the UAE already have enough hashes?

Sure, but almost all of them run in the cities in the evening and during the week. A few of us from Abu Dhabi Island Hash thought it’d be good to have a monthly run out in the desert and during the day.

So how will it work?

On the Friday nearest to the full moon each month, we’ll gather somewhere within two hours’ drive of Abu Dhabi or Dubai and start the run/walk at 4pm. After a quick circle, we’ll settle in for a barbecue, a campfire and some suitable beverages then camp overnight. The idea is for a stress-free hash so it’s BYO food and drink. There’ll be a nominal Dh20 fee to cover beers for the circle and incidental costs.

Who’s this for?

We’ve deliberately not included Abu Dhabi in the title because we’d like this to be a pan-Emirates group so other hashers in the sandpit can take turns setting runs in their favourite locations in the desert.

When is it?

The schedule for runs so far is:

  • December 9: Sandpit Hash run number one. Hatta Pools, Oman.
  • January 13: Sandpit Hash run number two. Al Khazna, Abu Dhabi.
  • No run on February 10 because we’re competing in the Wadi Bih relay race)
  • March 9: Sandpit Hash run number three. Jebel Sumayni, Oman.
  • April 6: Sandpit Hash number four. Lulu Island, Abu Dhabi.
  • May 4: Sandpit Hash number five. The Plateau, Musandam peninsula.
  • June 8: Sandpit Hash number six. A live-hared aquahash through HattaPools (something we’ve done in 50 degrees before) but with the onback and evening in the Hatta Fort Hotel.

After that we’ll have to assess the levels of enthusiasm for running in the hotter months but there are options to go further afield, such as the high mountain plateaus of Oman.

How do I sign up?

There’s no membership fee. You can reach us by signing up to our facebook group or you can email us on sandpit.hash@gmail.com. On on!
